REPORT – For fifteen years, the association “Donner la main, don de soi” has distributed Christmas packages to people sleeping in the streets of Lyon
“Oh, oh, oh!” Merry Christmas ! », exclaims Dominique, in his Santa Claus outfit. Fifteen days before his “official tour for children who have been good”, in his words, that evening he distributed somewhat special gifts in the streets of Lyon. “These are packages intended for homeless people,” he says. Inside, we find warm clothing, a hygiene product, something to eat like small chocolates, a small book with a small card. »
The volunteer specifies that in total, 200 of these packages were made by students from the Descartes high school, in Saint-Genis-Laval, and around sixty by scouts from the east of the city.
More than 1,000 people sleep on the streets in Lyon
“We’ve been doing this Christmas marauding for fifteen years,” adds Jean-Marc Roffat, president of the “Donner la main, don de soi” association, which initiated this action. “Whoever we are, we have the right to a little gift during this period,” he adds. In addition to “gifts”, people who sleep on the street receive, as during other distributions, food and clothing based on donations made to the association.
