It is an innovation that will facilitate the work of surgeons and improve the care of urology patients. Located at capstanat the gates of Perpignan, the Médipôle Saint-Roch clinic has just acquired a brand new surgical robot: the Da Vincifrom the company Intuitive Surgical. News Perpignan was able to test this cutting-edge equipment.

A new cutting-edge robot at Médipôle

This Thursday, December 19, 2024, the Elsan group, which owns Médipôle Saint-Roch (but also the Saint-Pierre and Méditerranée clinics in Perpignan), organized a special day. In the hall of the health establishment, passers-by (and caregivers!) were able to test the machine.

Like in a real game of Doctor Maboulone-day surgeons were able to manipulate objects (rubber washers and wires) inside a plastic structure meant to simulate a real human body.

The robot understands three hands. Each of them carries a very specific tool (if necessary, the assistant in the operating room can change the tool for each arm during the operation). Behind a screen, the surgeon controls two arms (a special command allows him to use the third hand, replacing one of the other two).

THE tremors of the human are “absorbed” by the machine and do not affect the patient. Each gesture is carefully reproduced by the robotic arms. The precision is impressive.

As soon as the professional removes his face from the screen, the arms lock for safety. He can also adjust the camera to his liking. In the operating room, the assistant can also observe each action performed on a high definition screen.

“We have fewer complications thanks to the robot”

The use of a surgical robot is not new in this clinic in the Pyrénées-Orientales. Since 2017, the service urologists uses one (older generation) for operations such as partial removal of the kidney, bladder or even the prostate.

“The robot is very useful for complex interventions, in anatomical areas where certain angles are difficult to access and when there are a lot of seams. It allows us to operate with fewer complications. We have better technical and functional results», explains Dr Nicolas Roques, surgeon-urologist at Médipôle Saint-Roch.

To understand all the subtleties of this new generation equipment, Cabestany surgeons will be trained over the coming weeks. The new robot will officially enter service from mid-January. “It’s a chance to have this in Perpignan. In terms of surgery, it’s what’s best,” emphasizes Bruno Jeanjean, director of the Cabestany clinic.

The Elsan clinics in the Pyrénées-Orientales stand out

The latest annual ranking of Le Point concerning the best health establishments in is flattering for the Elsan clinics in the Pyrénées-Orientales.

With its excellent 45th place nationally, Médipôle Saint-Roch in Cabestany appears to be the best clinic in the department. The establishment is acclaimed in 12 distinct specialties. Special mention for the treatment of bladder cancer (2nd best clinic out of 279).

Saint-Pierre, in Perpignan, is the other clinic in the Pyrénées-Orientales to appear in the Top 50 of the best private establishments. The clinic owes its 47th place nationally to its good scores in the treatment of myocardial infarction (3rd/137) and ENT cancers (7th/59).

Finally, the Mediterranean Polyclinic is in the Top 100 of the best establishments for “normal deliveries”. The Pyrénées-Orientales establishment ranks 76th out of 393 establishments.

Asked about the amount of the investment, the boss is surprisingly discreet. However, we know that the list price of this robot is 1.3 million euros . Bruno Jeanjean assures that his establishment has not paid this amount and prefers to maintain vagueness on this expense.

In France, there are approximately 300 robots Da Vinci Xthroughout the territory. The Perpignan hospital center has been equipped since 2021.
