A historic, extraordinary trial, widely followed by journalists from all over the world. Since September 2024, Dominique Pélicot and 50 other co-defendants were present before the Assize Court of the court, suspected of having raped Gisèle Pelicot, the wife of the main accused. The latter, for ten years, invited men, recruited on the internet, to his marital home, so that they could rape his wife, Gisèle, who was sedated and drugged during the events. The mother of three children became a feminist icon, especially after deciding to refuse the closed session. Every day, dozens of them thanked her for her courage and supported her. So, on Thursday December 19, 2024, when the convictions fell, many people were waiting in front of the Avignon court. Dominique Pélicot was sentenced to 20 years of criminal imprisonment. For others, the sentences range from 3 to 15 years in prison.

But for six of them, they left the court free. Among these defendants, there is Joseph C. who received a three-year prison sentence which he served during his pre-trial detention. Her lawyer, Maître Christophe Bruschi then left the court, with a smile on his face, heading towards the crowd who were both waiting for Gisèle Pelicot and who shared her anger at certain sentences considered too lenient. “My client is free!
