This Wednesday morning, the Palais des Sports in Toulon hosted a unique event: more than 750 people gathered to take part in a giant cardiac massage. If the attempt to beat the world record for the greatest number of participants was unsuccessful, the main objective was elsewhere: to raise public awareness of the importance of first aid procedures, in particular cardiac massage.
Mobilization around actions that save
Accompanied by the rhythm of the legendary song Stayin’ Aliveconsidered ideal for guiding a cardiac massage thanks to its tempo, the participants practiced this essential gesture together. Although the objective of exceeding the 1 812 participants of the world record established in Nice in 2016 has not been achieved, the organizers are delighted to have attracted so many volunteers.
One of the hosts of the event recalled that only 30% of French people know how to perform cardiac massage or first aid procedures. “This is a statistic that we must improve,” he insisted. “Every minute counts in the event of a cardiac arrest, and knowing how to react can literally be the difference between life and death. »
Enthusiastic and committed participants
Beyond the record attempt, the participants showed themselves to be very invested in the cause. Some, who came with their families, stressed the importance of passing on these gestures to the youngest. “It’s a unique opportunity to show that these actions are accessible to everyone, regardless of age,” said a participant.
Each person present left with an inflatable mannequin to train at home and raise awareness among those around them. “With this material, we can do exercises as a family, even by presenting it in a fun way,” shared a participant.
A strong message for the holidays
As the holidays approach, a time when the risk of domestic or food accidents increases, this event highlighted the need to be prepared. The organizers hope that this type of initiative will encourage more citizens to take first aid training, available in many local associations.
Cardiac massage is a simple but vital gesture, and this event in Toulon served to remind us of this with strength and commitment.
