Zero tolerance. In the fight against discrimination, one of the priorities expressed by the new management team, the District of Eure-et-Loir wants to be firm and exemplary.
In a press release, the authority announced that it had filed a complaint with the Lucé gendarmerie, this Tuesday, December 17, after a racist comment posted under one of its publications on its Facebook page.
“We have a responsibility to protect our values and act against any form of discrimination, whether racist, homophobic, sexist or of any other nature,” writes Sébastien Salmon, the boss of Eurelian Football.
“There’s no question of letting it go”
This Sunday, December 15, at 9 a.m., the District published on its Facebook page a report produced two days earlier during a youth training session of the Amicale de Lucé Football, with text and photos.
According to the authority, four hours later, around 1 p.m., a racist comment was posted below this publication. “He only stayed online for two minutes. With our elected official in charge of communications, we were responsive and we quickly deleted this comment,” specifies Sébastien Salmon, contacted by telephone.
But the District was not content to play its role of moderator. “We took a screenshot to be able to provide proof to the gendarmerie. Maybe no one saw this comment. But there was no question of letting it go. We educate on many things , for facts like this, we will always file a complaint,” continues Sébastien Salmon.
Six months in prison and 22,500 euros fine
The District followed the recommendations dictated by the “My security” application, which allows you to communicate with the police, this Tuesday, December 17 in the morning, the perpetrator being liable to a penalty of up to to six months in prison and a fine of 22,500 euros, according to the law of July 29, 1881.
To demonstrate its intransigence, the body then communicated on its networks, expressing indignation at these “unacceptable racist remarks” going “against the fundamental values of sport, and in particular football, which we defend on a daily basis. “
Sébastien Salmon also called for “vigilance, solidarity and respect for others, not only on football fields, but also in daily life”.
