Barcelona midfielder Bonmatí has been voted The Best FIFA Women’s Player for the second time in a row after the 26-year-old had another remarkable season full of trophies and success.
“I am grateful to receive this award. As I always say, this is a team sport. It was a great year, very difficult to repeat. I am grateful to the people who help me improve every day, from the club to my teammates who always push me,” said Bonmatí, who won three national titles and the UEFA Women’s Champions League with the Catalans in 2024, as well as the UEFA Women’s Nations League with its national team. “It’s a pleasure to be here again and to be able to aim even higher, for team titles, which are what also make you win individually”.
Vinícius Junior scored Real Madrid’s second goal in the final, one of 24 goals in 39 competitive club appearances in the 2023-24 season, with the Spanish club winning a record 15th UEFA Champions League in June. He was also part of the Brazil team that reached the quarterfinals of the 2024 Copa America CONMEBOL in the United States and won the La Liga title, the Spanish Super Cup and the UEFA Super Cup, on the same path to overtaking 2022 World Cup winner Lionel Messi , as FIFA’s best male player.
“I don’t even know where to start. It was so far away that it seemed impossible to get here. I was a kid playing football barefoot on the streets of São Gonçalo, close to poverty and crime. Coming here is something very important for me. I do it for many children who think everything is impossible and who think they can’t get this far,” the 24-year-old said after receiving the award from FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the gala dinner to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Aspire Academy in Doha, Qatar, ahead of the 2024 FIFA Intercontinental Cup Qatar final, where Real Madrid will meet Mexican side CF Pachuca.
“I have to thank everyone who voted for me, all the players, coaches, journalists and my fans. I can’t forget to thank my family, who gave up living their dream for mine. I want to thank the president [della FIFA, Gianni Infantino]Ancelotti and the staff who helped me get here and made me believe that I could make a difference and do great things with them.”
Like the two main individual awards, The Best FIFA Men’s Coach, The Best FIFA Women’s Coach, The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper and The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper awards were decided by an equally weighted vote among fans, current captains and coaches of all national women’s/men’s teams and media representatives.

“I started as a professional player in 1976, 48 years in football, which has given me and is giving me a lot of emotions. Most of the time (they are) positive; sometimes negative. But emotion is the only reason why after 48 I still feel so alive.”
