Since December 14, the Mayotte archipelago has been ravaged by the passage of tropical cyclone Chido. The entire department is under rubble and hundreds, if not thousands, of dead and people left homeless can be counted.
Thus, “faced with the urgency and the scale of the situation”, the Métropole du Grand Nancy will propose for a vote, during the metropolitan council on Thursday December 19, an exceptional subsidy of 10,000 euros paid to Secours populaire français and to its partners on site. At the same time, similar support will be provided by the City of Nancy during its next council meeting in January 2025.
“The two communities are also in contact with local associations to help identify needs as best as possible, and wish to express their full support to the families of the victims, the residents as well as the emergency services dispatched to the site,” report the metropolitan services in a press release published Tuesday, December 17.
Equivalent aid voted by the Metropolitan Council on November 4 had been sent to several cities in southern Lebanon, in particular to the partner city of Saida which hosts many displaced people who came to escape the clashes between the Israeli army and Hezbollah.
