Two deputies from Indre-et-Loire will vote to censure the Barnier government

Unsurprisingly, the two deputies from the New Popular Front, the ecologist Charles Fournier and the socialist Laurent Baumel, will vote on the motion of censure brought by the left this Wednesday, December 4, 2024 in the National Assembly.

“We wanted to vote against the government's budget, from the moment it wants to go through force with 49.3, that's the logic,” explains Laurent Baumel. For the Chinonais deputy, the Prime Minister did not seek to discuss “with the left, he did it with the National Rally, he conceded things only to end up being humiliated by the RN. »

For his part, Charles Fournier develops: “Michel Barnier had announced a change of method. There was a façade of dialogue and a background authoritarianism. The return of 49.3, a denial of democracy. »

Three deputies for “stability”

The other three deputies will vote against the motions of censure. “Michel Barnier is a prime minister who knows how to make himself accessible. We must not forget that his hands are tied, now we have to see how he behaves when he is under pressure,” estimates Sabine Thillaye, elected MoDem for the fifth constituency, describing “an electric atmosphere in the hemicycle in recent weeks. »

For his part, Henri Alfandari is above all keen to maintain a certain “stability”. The Horizons du Lochois MP analyzes: “If one of the motions passes, we could end up with a text on the 2025 finance bill rejected for several weeks, regardless of which government presents it. The risk is to see the country plunge into a long period of instability. »

The budget is also Daniel Labaronne’s main concern. Saying enough “mortified” by the situation, the deputy for Amboisie explains: “The measures that we have planned for the 2025 budget for farmers, or the return of the zero-interest loan to revive construction, for example, would be postponed…”

The deputy for the second constituency also attacks the elected representatives of the NFP who will “vote censorship with those of the RN (1) »: “I am attached to the notion of a republican front thanks to which I was elected, like Laurent Baumel… These two blocs which come together to oppose a budgetary text, it is quite complicated to understand! »

“The left alternative exists”

What happens next if Michel Barnier's government is overthrown? “It will take a little more humility on the part of Emmanuel Macron, perhaps a solution with the left or a government which would renounce the use of 49.3 to let Parliament work”believes Laurent Baumel.

“The left-wing and ecological alternative exists”, also recalls Charles Fournier, confident of having developed with Clémentine Autain, NFP deputy for Seine-Saint-Denis, “a roadmap from the ecological and social group”: “it will be presented this Wednesday. »
