Two hundred years after its creation, in Paris, Stéarinerie Dubois is still a company in progress. Established in Indre, in Scoury, in the town of Ciron, since the 1960s, it has never stopped developing and does not intend to stop there. His thing? “The manufacture of oil and fatty substances, called esters, for different technical applications, explains Hervé Plessix, executive general director of the company. These products are intended for the cosmetics market, and in particular those of the world's biggest brands; applications dedicated to health, for medications with very high requirements; to food, since we manufacture the small oiled film which is on the gummies and which prevents them from sticking, drying out and going rancid over time; finally, we also work for the paint and ink industry…”
“Invest regularly to stay on top”
A nice flagship, therefore, which today employs one hundred and sixty people, on its various sites established in Ciron, but also in Boulogne-Billancourt, in Poitiers, where there is an application laboratory, as well as in Shanghai, in China. China? “Yes, we have a large clientele in Asia. You know, we make a third of our turnover in France, a third in Europe, and a third in the rest of the world. And to keep these markets, which are very competitive, we must invest regularly to stay on top. »
For this, Dubois is banking on a new laboratory, currently under construction on its Scoury production site: “It is a research, development and quality control laboratory. This goes hand in hand with the requirements of our customers, who we do not wish to keep by lowering our prices, but by always being more innovative and efficient. So, we plan for the long term. This laboratory should open in the summer of 2025 ».
No recruitment immediately. “On the other hand, we are looking for production technicians, and even if it is not easy, because we are not in a chemical region, we train them. Here, we work 4×8, in order to respond in the best possible way to our customers. »
Of course, it is impossible to produce with quality without suitable raw materials: “It comes from all over the world, like our castor, coconut, or palm oil, which we obtain through cultivation without deforestation, which is very important for us. We only use products of natural and plant origin. » A line of conduct that has made the company successful today… for two hundred years.
