The giant Albi fir tree is already in place, like the lights that announce Christmas in the prefecture of Tarn. While in Castres, the Christmas market and its dozens of activities are preparing to welcome hundreds of thousands of visitors. But before fully entering into the Christmas celebration, there is another one which will be celebrated in the department with a great show.
This is the Sainte-Barbe. The patron saint of firefighters is also that of miners (in fact all professions related to fire…), and she is celebrated on December 4. In the Tarn, it is naturally the departmental mining museum of Cagnac-les-Mines who will host the celebrations.
Pyrotechnics
Last year, the Commandos Percu delivered a musical and pyrotechnic show there. This time, place for the Soukha company, which, at 6:30 p.m. will offer its show for free Tierra del Fuego. A well-established pyrotechnic show which has traveled a lot since its creation around fifteen years ago, with acrobats, jugglers, dancers and musicians. The show will be followed by a friendly time offered by the Department of Tarn.
Jean Jaurès still present
But that's not all, because beforehand, to mark the last day of opening of the museum before the winter closure, the public will be able to enjoy other activities (from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.). Notably a two-voice guided tour for (re) discover the places in an original way, in the presence of guides-mediators and former miners from the ASPICC (Association for the Protection of Industrial Heritage Carmaux-Cagnac).
We will also be able to see the exhibition dedicated to Jean Jaurès one last time. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his pantheonization, the Department of Tarn pays tribute to the great man through archives linked to his political commitment in Tarn, the presentation of newspaper clippings, photographs, postcards and personal objects from loans and museum collections. A sound object created in partnership with ADDA by La Cie La Portée and in collaboration with students from the Jean-Jaurès college in Albi completes the permanent tour of the museum. A unique sculpture by the artist Agnès Baillon also honors this figure from Tarnes, close to the working world and particularly miners. The Cie La Portée and the artist Agnès Baillon will be present for this finishing.
Visitors will also be able to view the exhibitions one last time. “Like nothing” by the EPONYME collective, and “In the shadow of our sleep” – by Julie Saclier, with the Center d’art le Lait.
“Blue”by Cathy Connan, will still be present when the site reopens on February 15 (and until April 2025).
Feast of Sainte-Barbe, in Cagnac-les-Mines on December 4, 2024. Free.
