The big family of Figeac sports gathered on Friday for the OIS Trophies evening. The opportunity to salute the commitment of volunteers and the dynamism of the area's clubs.

Friday, November 29 in the evening, the Europe room of the François Mitterrand space, in Figeac, in the Lot, hosted the prestigious trophy ceremony of the intercommunal sports office (OIS) of Grand Figeac.

In the presence of an audience of elected officials and personalities, including the deputy Christophe Proenca, the president of Grand Figeac Vincent Labarthe and Nathalie Faure, deputy to the mayor of Figeac in charge of sports, the president of the OIS Stéphane Bérard opened the evening in front of more than 350 guests from the local sporting world. In his speech, he praised the vitality and good health of sport in the region, testifying to “a real collective dynamism”.

The dinner, punctuated by sporting and musical interludes, was marked by moments rich in emotion. A particular tribute was paid to three key figures who recently passed away from the OIS: Alain Becquet, Marie-Claire Lucciani and Daniel Walck.

A real ovation

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the spotlight on Jonathan Hivernat, captain of the French wheelchair rugby team at the last Paralympic Games (read below). Originally from Figeac, the athlete reunited with his childhood friends in an atmosphere full of emotion. Welcomed by a real ovation, he received a special trophy recognizing his exceptional career and his commitment.

In total, no less than 52 sports trophies and 30 heart trophies were awarded. Each winner had the opportunity to share this proud moment with their loved ones, teammates and friends. This evening once again illustrated the strength of the link between sport and solidarity in the Grand Figeac region.

A special trophy full of emotion for Jonathan Hivernat

The emotion was there on Friday evening with the exceptional presence of Figeacois Jonathan Hivernat, captain of the French wheelchair rugby team at the 2024 Paralympic Games.

Happily returning to his hometown, the champion received a special trophy which touched him greatly. “It has a very special flavor to come back here because we experienced unique Games. As a Figeacois, I couldn't see myself not coming this evening. It’s important to be able to bring this dimension to the Games which were a success.”

“It’s a nice wink tonight”

Suffering from Charcot Marie-Tooth disease, the Lotois now lives in but spent his entire childhood in Figeac where he returns very regularly. Very close to the Delbos family, he also presented the French team jersey to Chantal Delbos who spoke about his career.

“Until middle school, I was a Figeacois who had a completely traditional education. Life was not mapped out the way it was supposed to be. But it's part of me now and it's made me grow enormously,” confided Jonathan Hivernat, who wishes to uphold “the values ​​of surpassing oneself, excellence and the collective”. The high-level athlete was keen to respond to the invitation from the OIS and the numerous requests from the public. “It’s a nice nod tonight,” he said before delivering a strong message, particularly to the youngest. “That each child here can say to themselves that, even coming from Figeac, we can aspire to very great things, that our dreams come true and potentially go to the French team and represent their country. »

Surrounded by elected officials and Chantal Delbos, Jonathan Hivernat was warmly applauded by the public.
