The only toy store in this town center in Oise will permanently close after Christmas

After Christmas, downtown Compiègne (Oise) will no longer have any toy stores. Located rue des Bonnetiers, in the pedestrian streets, “La caver d’Albin”, a toy and games store for children, open since 2019, will permanently close its doors after the end-of-year holidays, at the beginning of 2025.

In the meantime, customers can still do their Christmas shopping there. By finding discounts on some games and puzzles.

Fewer people in the city center

A closure justified by “the current situation”, according to Ingrid, the store manager. “This year has been particularly complicated,” underlines the trader.

She explains this in particular by a drop in attendance in the city center of Compiègne. “We feel it on Saturday, there are fewer people. Compiégnois customers are still there but unfortunately it’s not enough.”

“An evil for a good”

“It is difficult to park to come to the center,” adds the manager. “Not to mention Amazon, which delivers toys directly to your door in less than 24 hours…”

Many businesses are closing in the city center and there are few openings. For example, the premises next to my shop have been empty for two years (…). It was a difficult decision to make, but I tell myself that it’s a blessing in disguise.

A closure which will take place after the disappearance of the “Sergeant Major” children’s clothing store a few steps away. ” That does not envisage anything good for the child trade (…). Customers were surprised to learn this.”

The retailer also highlights the surge in sales of second-hand games and toys, on Vinted or Leboncoin for example. “The proof is that the shelf of second-hand games that I created in my store has never worked as well as this year.”

A few weeks before New Year's Eve, the manager will apply a 25% reduction on her entire store “excluding current promotions” on Wednesday December 4 next.
