Santiago's father will soon be back in France. Arrested with the infant's mother in Amsterdam (Netherlands), at the end of October, he will be handed over to the French authorities within ten days, declared an Amsterdam court, this Wednesday, November 27, 2024, reports theAgence France-Presse.
Four days on the run
Very prematurely born two months early, the newborn, then 17 days old, was taken on October 21 by his parents from a hospital in Aulnay-sous-Bois, near Paris, where he was placed in an incubator. A kidnapping alert was triggered by the French authorities before a European arrest warrant was issued and the couple's car was found in Belgium.
After four days of tracking, requiring numerous police forces, the Dutch police finally found the two parents and the baby, on October 25, in a hotel in Amsterdam.
The mother indicted but left free
Santiago's mother had accepted the accelerated procedure of surrender to France. She was indicted at the beginning of November but left free under judicial supervision.
The father, for his part, opted for a long procedure and remained in pre-trial detention in the Netherlands, before changing his mind. “The man finally opted for the accelerated surrender procedure”said the Amsterdam court this Wednesday. “The surrender is authorized. This will take place within ten days”he added.
Santiago was repatriated to France on 1is November.
