Kédougou, Nov 26 (APS) – The deputy prefect of the Kédougou department, Papa Abdoulaye Mbaye, chaired, on Tuesday, an awareness workshop on local content in the mining sector.
Mor Bakhoum, technical secretary of the national local content monitoring committee, indicated that more than one hundred and fifty local entrepreneurs and suppliers of goods and services took part in this meeting.
”The objective of this workshop following the various actions that we have taken, is to come and meet the actors and stakeholders as well as young people who aspire to integrate the mining sector as part of the popularization of the principles and laws on local content,” he said in the presence of administrative and local authorities as well as representatives of mining companies.
He discussed the legal and institutional framework for local content, highlighting the new directions of the State of Senegal.
A legal framework has been put in place to “regulate local content with a certain number of requirements that weigh on mining title holders and subcontractors,” he explained.
He recalled that the electronic platform for connecting local content had been presented to territorial stakeholders in the Kédougou region as part of the national local content monitoring committee.
“We already did it in December 2023 and it was educational to come back to less than a year of implementation to further discuss with the stakeholders and reaffirm the orientations and clarify a certain number of points,” said Mor Bakhoum .
The technical secretary of the national local content monitoring committee also invited local entrepreneurs to register on the electronic platform, the main procurement tool in the mining sector.
The deputy prefect of the Kédougou department Papa Abdoulaye Mbaye praised the role of the technical secretariat of the national committee for monitoring local content in the context of popularizing the law on local content in the mining sector.
”This involves the popularization of the law and implementing decrees on local content for the attention of local businesses and awareness-raising on the networking platform which is the main market tool in the sector mining,” he magnified.
The administrative authority invited the local authorities which host mining operations to train local entrepreneurs in order to give them skills to win markets in the mining sector.
