In Mayenne, as in 2023, a river procession in honor of Notre-Dame-des-Miracles is usually organized around October 14, since this corresponds to the anniversary date of the Notre-Dame church, which has become a basilica.
Problem: in 2024, the level of the river was lowered at the time of the eruptions, between September 2 and November 17. The event was thus postponed to allow a statue of the Virgin to advance on Mayenne, in a boat, alongside the walkers.
“We are thinking of keeping this date”
“We had left in mid-October but, as there were the shortcomings, we asked ourselves the question, indicates Father Pierre-Marie Perdrix, priest of the Notre-Dame-Saint-Martin-de-Mayenne-Moulay parish. As there is the feast of the diocese of Laval, December 8 it helped us choose. » The procession will take place the next day, Monday December 9. “We are thinking of keeping this date”, announces the priest.
The meeting is at the foot of the viaduct, left bank, at 7:30 p.m. Head to the basilica, where a mass will be celebrated at 8:30 p.m.
Share your faith
“The purpose of a procession is to walk from one place to another, towards a sacred place, to give time to pray and sing together, explains Father Perdrix. In a church, we are a bit static. It’s a way of living our faith in a slightly more uninhibited way, by sharing it. »
Last year, the procession brought together nearly 250 people, in Mayenne, Friday October 13, 2023.
