Even after climbing Everest, Inoxtag is still on the rise. After a documentary dedicated to his mountain journey, the Youtuber is now tackling the conquest of the literary industry. On November 21, the content creator published his first manga, Instinct, co-developed with Charles Compain and Basile Monnot. This release took place less than two weeks after the project was announced on YouTube, but the Inoxtag community was quick to respond. The first sales results have just been made public and are dizzying to say the least. In just 4 days, Instinct managed to have the best launch for a manga in France with 67,000 copies sold in just four days (according to GFK statistics).
The publisher Michel Lafon claims more than 80,000 copies sold. No manga has sold so quickly on French territorynot even behemoths such as One Piece et Dragon Ball. But be careful: this feat concerns the best start for a volume 1. A small subtlety that should be noted since otherwise, the record for the best launch all numbers combined goes to volume 100 of the adventures of Luffy, sold 131,270 copies in three days according to Glénat.
More Instinctwhat is it about?
This dazzling launch is not surprising since Inoxtag's manga ticks all the boxes for a success of the genre. Besides the popularity of the content creator, Instinct draws on the most popular themes of Japanese works : supernatural powers, young adult with a fate as tragic as grandiose… A combination of elements which will not fail to catch the eye of readers. Here's what the manga's synopsis promises:
“Haki, 19, has the gift of seeing the intentions of others. He perceives the aura of those around him and must constantly endure human nature. When Haki learns that he has an incurable virus and that he only has a few months to live, he meets Luna, an intriguing young girl who gives him a glimpse of a better world.”
At first glance, Instinct presents itself as a sort of Life is Strange with shônen sauce: premises which are indeed convincing. If you want to slip this manga under the tree at Christmas, know that the task will not be easy. On Amazon, the book is now “shipped within 1 to 2 months” and bookstore stocks promise to sell out at high speed. So don’t delay! As a reminder, the first volume of Instinct costs €10.95.
