With more than 34% of the votes cast in the first round of these early legislative elections in the second constituency of Allier, the outgoing MP Jorys Bovet (RN) is well on his way to winning a three-way race on July 7 that will pit him against Louise Héritier (LFI) and Romain Lefebvre (LR).

No outpouring of joy. Just a discreet smile at the announcement of the results of the first round of the legislative elections in the second constituency of Allier. Jorys Bovet (RN), the outgoing MP, came out on top with 34.33% of the votes cast ahead of Louise Héritier (LFI), credited with 24.06%, and Romain Lefebvre (LR), who, by obtaining 19.67% of the votes cast, announced his continuation in the second round.

“Our voters have responded. It is favorable and I am proud of it. It will be the extreme left or the National Rally,” warns Jorys Bovet, ignoring the presence of the candidate of the Republican party next Sunday. And the outgoing MP attacks La France Insoumise “which wants to disarm the police, which wants chaos and which wants to destroy everything in our institutions.”

“Don’t sell the bear’s skin”

It is at the time of the closing of the polling stations that Jorys Bovet shows up at the administrative city of Montluçon where the central office is located. Navy blue jacket and tie, sky blue shirt, a blue white red flame pinned to the lapel of his suit, the candidate of the National Rally greets his rival Romain Lefèbvre who consults on his smartphone the first results coming from Marcillat-en-Combraille.

Questioned by a journalist from France 3 Auvergne, Jorys Bovet refuses to take part in the game of predictions: “I don’t want to sell the bear’s skin before killing it”, he simply replies.

“It’s going to be okay.”

Jérôme Duchalet, his substitute, who arrived on site around 6:40 p.m., is more optimistic: “We visited many polling stations throughout the day and we were well received. It will go well.”

Still awaiting the results, the outgoing deputy greets Frédéric Laporte (LR), who, riding his scooter, parks in the forecourt of the administrative city. The mayor of Montluçon only stays for a few minutes. A long-planned dinner awaits him at a restaurant in town.

An alcohol-free beer

It is with his smartphone in his hand that Jorys Bovet waits before knowing the final verdict of the ballot. The results are trickling in. Domérat, Villebret, Commentry. All are favorable to the National Rally candidate. It is only in Montluçon that the gap between the outgoing MP and Louise Héritier (LFI) is very tight.

Shortly before 10 p.m., Jorys Bovet, stoic, listens to Romain Lefebvre (LR) announce live on France 3 Auvergne that he will remain in the second round. “It’s his right,” he commented a few minutes later before explaining his intention to “drink a non-alcoholic beer” and return to the field on Monday to fight the campaign.
