How was this small town in Creuse able to save its church with aid sometimes falling from the sky?

When the current municipality of Janaillat came into office in 2017, it was confronted with what many municipalities must manage, at one time or another: a church in suffering, even in danger. “When we took office, we noticed that there were big problems with the roof, infiltrations,” remembers the mayor, Raymond Dubreuil. The tile roofing of the nave and chapel was damaged by frost. We really had to intervene. »

No, the Janaillat church is not the only one to suffer from the ravages of time. And even if it is deserted by its flock, they are very attached to it. The municipalities know this well, especially since these buildings often represent the only heritage element of the municipality. But, here as elsewhere, the work to be considered is substantial: the first quotes requested in 2019 estimate the project at €225,000 when the municipality's budget is barely double that.

Help yourself, will heaven help you?

“We looked at what aid we could qualify for and, from 2020, we applied for subsidies. » To the State, via the DETR, to the Department, to Com-com… “And then, we learned that the Heritage Foundation and the Safeguarding of French could also help us,” continues the mayor. So, with the Foundation, we launched a popular patronage…” So much aid which, put together, reduces the remainder payable by the municipality.
