2024 Legislative Elections: First estimates of the first round in Sarthe from 8 p.m.

Three weeks after the dissolution of the National Assembly by Emmanuel Macron, the President of the Republic, the results of the first round of the legislative elections are expected this Sunday from 8 p.m., two hours after the closing of the 607 polling stations in SartheThe department has five constituencies in which the outgoing deputies have all chosen to stand again.

A very strong participation

It was announced. It’s confirmed. Participation is increasing sharply in Sartheas in the rest of the country. At 5 p.m., the participation rate was already 61.30%, or 22 points more than in 2022 at the same time (38.87%). From noon, we observed this trend with a rate of 28.58% in Sarthe compared to 19.6% at 12 p.m. in 2022.

The National Rally in the lead in 4 out of 5 constituencies

According to the partial results, the RN comes first in all the Sarthois constituencies. Céline de Cossé Brissac in the first, Romain Lemoigne obtain nearly 43% of the votes, Marie Caroline Le Pen is at 41% in the fourth and Pïerre Vaugarny in the fifth is at 44%. The National Rally therefore confirms the results obtained during the European elections in Sarthe where it came first in 350 out of 354 municipalities with a score of 35.87% across the entire department.

We take [ces résultats partiels] with calm and determination. The fight is not over. There is a second round. We are going to return to the field and we are going to explain that for Jordan Bardella to be Prime Minister, he must have an absolute majority” declares Marie-Caroline Le Pen, candidate RN on the fourth constituency of Sarthe.

Triangular ones?

Given the high participation, the hypothesis of return of triangulars (three candidates qualified for the second round) is likely. For a candidate to be able to run in the second round, he or she must have obtained a number of votes at least equal to 12.5% of those registered in the constituency. If none of them succeed, then the two candidates who came in first can continue in the second round. In 2022 in Sartheat the end of the first round, 10 candidates had qualified for the second (four from the National Rally, three from the presidential majority and three from Nupes).

Most of 29 candidates from the five Sarthe constituencies are expected this evening at the Sarthe prefecture in Le Mans where the results are centralized.
