A sacred challenge taken up by Dove Attia, the pope of French musicals (The ten Commandments ; The sun King ; 1789, the Lovers of the Bastille ; Mozart, the Rock Opera): adapting the life of Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, alias Molière, to the stage in a musical comedy that is half slam, half pop, performed by a stunning troupe of 28 singers and dancers, a splendid set and a deluge of period costumes often twisted by modern references. The result, Molière the musical showis breathtaking. The play received a standing ovation under the dome of Saint Just on Saturday, June 29, and will be performed again this Sunday at 3 p.m. as well as on March 8, 2025.
The booklet skillfully doses touches of humor and powerful sequences. In the first part, we follow the traveling adventure of the Illustre Théâtre. Before and after the intermission, the troupe plays on the Marseille fiber and the connivance with the audience by inventing lines on the Frioul islands and pastis, a little caricatured but sympathetic.
The show builds to a crescendo in the second part, which evokes the immense successes punctuated by scandals – The Ridiculous Precious Ones, Women’s school, Imaginary sick or Tartuffe, censored several times – we discover with delight the backstage of these masterpieces which have entered our heritage, written in the second half of the 17th century but with a subject that is still relevant today
