The City of Rouyn-Noranda launches a consultation on housing

The City of Rouyn-Noranda wants to better understand the current housing situation in its territory. To do this, it is launching a consultation with the help of an external firm that will provide both a clear picture of the situation and some possible solutions to the housing crisis.

“We want to know the needs and concerns in our territory,” explains Samuelle Ramsay-Houle, municipal councillor and chair of the housing committee for the City of Rouyn-Noranda. “Our goal is to be able to paint a picture of supply and demand as accurately as possible because the issues can be different from one person to another and from one neighbourhood to another. This consultation will then allow us to make informed choices and adapt our action plan based on real needs.”

To participate, citizens are invited to respond to a survey that is online starting today. Responses will be received until September 22, 2024 inclusive. Those interested in participating can visit the City’s website: rouyn-noranda.ca/sondage-logement.

Three different questionnaires were developed to target people concerned about the housing crisis or looking for housing, homeowners and employers. They are presented in the form of questions, mainly multiple choice, and take less than 10 minutes to complete. The largest number of survey respondents is necessary to have a representativeness of what is really happening in Rouyn-Noranda.

At the same time, the firm will conduct targeted interviews, particularly with businesses and major employers in Rouyn-Noranda, to complete the portrait of housing needs and challenges. The results of the consultation will be available in the fall of 2024 and will lay the foundation for the next steps to be taken.
