The Miaulétous had been passing by the Grand Saint Léonard for several years, with a certain nostalgia for the time when it was starred in the Michelin Guide, thanks to chef Jean-Marc Vallet, and a regret at seeing this solid construction decay.
The wheel is turning: work has begun in the former post house on Avenue du Champ-de-Mars, under the leadership of a private actor who told the Popular of the Center want to remain discreet.
“Very positive news”
On the ground floor, a space of 150 square meters will be rented by the town hall to host exhibitions or even art artisans. On the upper floors, five apartments will be fitted out for rental.
After the failure of several recovery projects, which had come up against the amount of work to be carried out, this is the end of several years of doubts. “It is very positive news for the town to see this building located at the entrance to the town come back to life, when you arrive from Clermont-Ferrand,” notes Alain Peyrabout, deputy mayor.
Water infiltration
Built in the 18th century, this stone building with a façade of 27 meters was once called Le Grand Versailles, and remained an inn until the past decade.
Bought by the Vallet couple in 1978, it had undergone major work, with a modification of the ground floor and the creation of an apartment on the second floor.
With the current construction site, the facade will regain harmony with the reopening of the large doors, on the advice of the Architect of Buildings of France. The roof has also been redone in recent weeks after the discovery of water infiltration.
