Everyone still remembers the Olympic Games but also the Paralympic Games this summer. The athletes, whether able-bodied or disabled, achieved great performances.

With BaskIn, able-bodied players and those with disabilities play together on the field. We explain everything about this discipline, a club of which is located in Vendée.

A very popular sport in Italy

The baskIN comes from Italy. He was born in Cremona in 2003. He was initiated in the school environment by Antonio Bodini, father of a child with cerebral palsy and Fausto Capellini, PE teacher. It was in 2006 that Associazione Baskin Italy was formed and filed its regulations.

In Italy, it is a publicized sport. There are more than 200 teams there. “I would dream that it was the same thing in ,” says Emma, member of Smash Basket Vendée.

Specific rules

It is an innovative team sport with specific rules allowing people whose motor and intellectual abilities are heterogeneous to play together.

BaskIN is inspired by both basketball and inclusive logic, allowing everyone to practice it. It is played on a classic basketball court with the difference that there are not two but four baskets.

There are certain basic rules of basketball and others specific to the discipline. For example, the ball is smaller in certain phases of play or there may be a tutoring bond between players.

Five roles to fill

Depending on each person's abilities, different roles are assigned. There are five with a pivot that needs external help to move, a moving pivot does not need help to move and dribble twice. For these two roles, players shoot from the side baskets only.

The other three roles are for players who can run, dribble and shoot. Depending on their comfort, they may or may not shoot side and traditional baskets.

There is 6 players per team. The teams compete in quarters which each last eight minutes.

Inclusion

Every week, from the IME in Montaigu Vendée or from the Foyer de vie de la Guyonniére, the players go to the club Smash Basket located at L’Herbergement. This initiative has been in place since 2016.

This year, the BaskIN Adult sessions (+13 years) take place on Saturdays from 9:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at the initiative of trainer Jeanne Richard.

My wish was to allow a shared practice of a dynamic, sporting and tactical activity.

Each of the players shares the riches of this team. “Inclusion, we learn from everyone. We learn to adapt to the person in front of us, through our words and our actions,” explains Emma, who followed her mother into the club and has participated in her life for 4 years. “We learn to deconstruct preconceptions. »
