1,675 athletes including participants classified as disabled sports took the start of the Fort-de-France international half-marathon this Sunday, November 24, 2024. It was at 6 a.m. that the start of the main event was given, with a double blow at the end for Rwanda (East African country).
Boniface Njiru was the fastest in the event. After 1h 06mn and 21 seconds of racing, he won this 21km100 circuit, ahead of his compatriot Clémentine Mukandanga, the first woman to appear on the seafront of the city where the finish was judged.
Fabio Thaly was the first Martinican champion to cross the line of this 38e edition in 6e position, after 1 hour and 12 minutes of racing behind three other French people.

I left very quickly thinking I could approach a leading group, but from the 6th/7th km I found myself all alone (…). I tried to keep up the pace, but it was difficult. It was very hard at the end, but I am satisfied with my 6th place in any case.

The other Martinique victory is signed by Cécilia Mobuchon of Golden Star. She is at 3e place in the order of finish among the many women in this morning competition. Like Fabio Thaly, Cécilia retains her title of champion of the island.
This half marathon is getting tougher and tougher in terms of the women's field, so I knew it would be a battle. Before the race I was a little stressed because I knew there was a lot of competition, but once the race started I started very quickly and led until 5/6 km. From 10th I found myself 2nd then 3rd, but I didn't give up, because I had to get my podium and also in my head, I wanted to stay in Martinique, so it's a done deal.

A little earlier at daybreak, several participants took part in the first race of the event, on a 5km course called “Jou Ouvè”. The Martinican Georges Jean-Élie, member of the Sports Town Hall, is the winner. In the women's category, triathlete Karine Lona took first place.
