Before France-Belgium, we were able to speak with Louis Saha, 20 times French international and former scorer for Everton and Manchester United. He sees Kylian Mbappe as the key to Monday’s match.

Louis Saha is counting on Kylian Mbappé to give France its third Euro in 40 years this summer, given his proven track record at the highest level. For the former Manchester United player, 20 times French international (4 goals), the captain of the Blues is the key.

The Real Madrid-bound French superstar has been wearing a protective mask since breaking his nose against Austria in the opening game. He then missed the goalless draw with the Netherlands but opened his scoring in the competition from the penalty spot against Poland as France failed to top their group.

France also seems to be its greatest opponent, given its intrinsic qualities, superior to most of the other teams. But the ex-Man United star puts things into perspective: “I wouldn’t say that because this Euro is quite open and complicated. Belgium is a top team, just like Germany and England. France is the favorite and the team to beat, but there are a lot of teams that can win.”

One of the advantages of Les Bleus is their coach, who knows how to win. “He’s been there for more than ten years. France has that confidence and they’ve obviously won competitions before, so they know what to do. The players are confident, they know exactly where to run and where to go.”

Mbappé, the key

And then, of course, there is Kylian Mbappé. “He is the key element. During the World Cup, he showed what he is capable of and came very close to guiding France to the trophy, scoring three goals in that final. And he can do it again at the Euro,” assures Louis Sahawho is seduced by the future Madrid player. “He is unique and one of the best players in the world with Vinicius.”

Another element mentioned by Saha, William Saliba, Arsenal defender who should start this Monday. For the man with 84 goals in 288 Premier League games, the Gunner is a future great.

“William is still young and has plenty of time ahead of him. I think he has the potential to become the heir to Thuram and Desailly. He is a very promising player and I wish him the best,” concludes Louis Saha.
