French champion with Stade Toulousain last Friday, Baptiste Germain will wear the Bayonne jersey next season. The young and promising 23-year-old scrum-half or fly-half has signed a three-year contract until 2027 in favor of Aviron.

At the beginning of June, he had already met with the Aviron leaders and visited the Jean-Dauger facilities. It was said in the columns of Olympic Midday that his transfer to Bayonne was on track, it is now official. While he still had one year left on his contract with Stade Toulousain, Baptiste Germain will leave the Ville Rose this summer to settle down in the Basque Country. This Monday, the Bayonne club made official the signing of the young and promising 23-year-old scrum-half or fly-half for a three-year contract until 2027.

In Bayonne, the very recent French champion will numerically replace Gela Aprasidze in the blue and white squad since the Georgian has set sail for Perpignan. After an eventful adventure in Toulouse, Germain finished in the best possible way with the Red and Black with this Top 14-European Cup double during this season which saw him play 19 matches, including eight as a starter, he who had already won a Top 14 and a Champions Cup in 2021, and this on the sidelines of a conclusive loan to Biarritz in Pro D2.

Germain promised a bright future in Bayonne

Often relegated to the bench in the Ville Rose, Germain has nevertheless gained plenty of experience despite his young age. Called up in all categories of the French team (from under-16s to under-20s), the Bordeaux native has always been one of the best players of his generation in his position. Sought after by several other Top 14 clubs, the number 9 or 10 who played for Union Bordeaux Bègles finally decided to join Bayonne.

At Aviron, Germain will be in competition with Guillaume Rouet and the international Maxime Machenaud. Moreover, on the Ernest-Wallon side, the name of Naoto Saito (26 years old) is circulating a lot on the list of potential arrivals. The Japanese international scrum-half could well also wear the Haut-Garonne jersey next year.
