The years go by and fewer and fewer French people reject zero immigration. This is what a recent survey carried out by the CSA institute reveals. According to this study, 51% of citizens respond negatively to the question: are you for or against zero immigration in France? A notable development compared to October 2021, where the “no” vote was 59%.
This survey was carried out on November 21 among a representative sample of 1,011 people aged 18 and over. The quota method applied takes into account various criteria: sex, age, profession or even region. The results thus reveal significant nuances according to these different profiles.

Divisions according to gender and professional status
Men are more inclined to reject the idea of zero immigration: 55% of them answer “no” to this proposal, while 53% of women say they are in favor. On a socio-professional level, the differences are just as notable. The upper socio-professional categories (CSP+) as well as the inactive (retirees, students, etc.) are mainly positioned against zero immigration, with respectively 54% and 52% negative responses. On the other hand, among the CSP-, a shift is taking place: 54% of them are in favor of a total stop to immigration, whether legal or illegal.

If the differences remain moderate according to gender or profession, the political proximity of the respondents brings out much clearer opinions. On the left, the rejection of zero immigration is massive: 79% of left-wing voters are opposed to it, with a peak among supporters of La France insoumise, where 88% express a “no”. Among voters close to the presidential majority (Renaissance and allies), 71% of respondents also oppose zero immigration.
On the right, the results are more contrasted. Among the Republicans, a narrow majority (54%) is opposed to completely stopping immigration, but this rejection becomes a minority among National Rally voters. There, the answer is clear: 83% of respondents support the idea of zero immigration, legal or not.
