Euro 2024: A catastrophic outcome for Ligue 1!

The TV rights for the broadcast of Ligue 1 have still not been awarded. The expected revenues, initially close to a billion euros, will probably be halved! If Ligue 1 remains a championship that is observed, it is not the most attractive. The fault lies in a glaring lack of figureheads, an observation reinforced after the departure of Kylian Mbappé to Spain. In general, Ligue 1 attracts few internationals, which is confirmed by the figures on the representation of Ligue 1 players at Euro 2024.

France is not an Eldorado for all foreign players. While Ligue 1 attracts footballers from minor leagues, it seems to have lost all attractiveness when it comes to poaching Europeans from major leagues. An observation in which PSG plays the role of the tree that hides the forest.

Ligue 1 has a limited representation for Euro 2024 with just 29 players called up. This figure puts it far behind other major European leagues. Euro 2024 highlights Ligue 1’s low contribution compared to other major leagues. In comparison, the Premier League has 96 players selected, while Serie A has 92. The Bundesliga and La Liga follow with 75 and 57 players respectively.

Even less prestigious leagues like Turkey (26 players) and the Czech Republic (21 players) are getting dangerously close to Ligue 1. PSG stands out as the most represented Ligue 1 club with 12 players selected. Switzerland is the nation with the most players from Ligue 1, with 5 representatives, followed closely by Portugal with 4 players, all from PSG.

List of Ligue 1 players at Euro 2024

As for the Copa America, twelve players from Ligue 1 McDonald’s will be present for the competition that will take place from June 20 to July 14. This figure represents a slight increase compared to the last edition in 2021. Paris Saint-Germain is once again the most represented club with three players: Marquinhos, Beraldo and Manuel Ugarte. They are followed by AS Monaco with two players and Toulouse FC with two players as well.

Eight Ligue 1 McDonald’s clubs have at least one representative among the teams participating in the Copa America in the United States: PSG, Monaco, Lyon, Lille, Marseille, Toulouse, Lens and Clermont.

Note that the Premier League (England) will be represented by 15 players, La Liga (Spain) by 12 players, Serie A (Italy) by 10 players and the Bundesliga (Germany) by 8 players.
