Men open fire at a wedding, one dead and five injured, two seriously

Several hooded men opened fire at a wedding in Thionville (Moselle) on the night of Saturday to Sunday. A 34-year-old man was killed and five other people injured, two of them seriously. One of the injured is in critical condition, according to a source close to the case. An 8-month pregnant woman was also taken to hospital for examinations. The perpetrators are on the run.

The events took place around 1 a.m. at the Eden Palace, a reception hall located in a commercial area outside the city center, and which notably hosts weddings with a capacity of 600 to 800 people. Three armed individuals burst in and opened fire numerous times. A police source mentions two men armed with a Kalashnikov-type rifle, and a third armed with a handgun. Around fifteen shots were fired according to the same source. The perpetrators arrived and then left in an SUV.

The possibility of an act against a backdrop of drug trafficking is being investigated. Several people attending the wedding were reportedly specifically targeted by the attackers. A scenario that will need to be confirmed by the investigations that are only just beginning.

The Metz judicial police were charged with the investigation. The police were still carrying out their findings at 6:30 a.m.
