Charlotte Fontanella is graduate of the first cycle of'School of the Louvre in art history and a master's degree Book professions and publishing.
She was French teacher in the office of the Minister of National Education and Youth, editorial assistant, editor for Nathan, Lonely Planet, Les Petites Capitales and just created a publishing house independent, Éditions Pélagie, in 2024.
She works in parallel for other publishing houses, free-lance.
“A little girl’s dream”
Pélagie comes from the Greek pelágos, which means 'open sea'. It is also the nickname of Venus, and the name of a jellyfish emitting light at night… For novels that do not lack spice! We like the idea of connecting our different publications with a blue thread: that of the sea and the oceans. An invitation to travel and an inspiring horizon, like the books in our lives. I take care of correction, proofreading and layout. I research and support authors.
For Charlotte Fontanella, this new professional chapter is an outcome:
“Opening this publishing house is a little girl’s dream. I have always loved reading. When I was young, I spent my time at the media library. I read all the time and everything. I particularly like Flaubert, Harry Potter, Stefan Zweig, Jean-Christophe Ruffin, Alice Ferney, Jean Teulé. I am very well supported, among others by Camille Hacquard, manager of the Auxieux Livres bookstore in Châteaugiron, and Livre et lecture en Bretagne through workshops and training. Reading gives me escape, dreams. »
Good books take us on a journey. They transport us, make us discover worlds, take us far, sometimes very far, from everyday life. While reading, we forget time. It’s a whole imagination that is offered to us.
“I’m looking for nuggets”
Charlotte Fontanella publishes romansbut also stories et news and opens three collections: “The Optimist” (books that we enjoy reading and from which we come out with a smile), “The Romanesque” (contemporary authors highlighted), “The Intrepid” (collection of literary short stories that invite you to travel).
The first title, Jingle Breizhby author Kenneth McAllow, has just been published. Klervi, a young Breton woman, regularly suffers attacks from her boyfriend on his weight. Until one time too many.
She then engages in a pari fou : if she wins the Irish dancing competition at the Christmas party, he will have to leave the city. Otherwise, she will have to leave.
To achieve her goals, she can count on the help of her boss and her best friend, but above all, at least she hopes, on that of this foreigner of few wordswho seems to know something about dancing.
The launch evening took place at the Auxieux Livres bookstore on Friday November 15, 2024.
Our works are only published on behalf of a publisher, which means that Pélagie covers all costs, from the production of the books (layout, correction, printing, etc.) to their marketing. I'm looking for nuggets, and 'feel good' novels (a literary genre that mixes emotions and humor through life stories whose message is generally positive despite the challenges, Editor's note). Four or five works will follow in 2025, including a collection of short stories (collective).
Meetings are planned with Kenneth McAllowincluding November 30, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Cultura Chantepie and December 5, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Le Failler bookstore in Rennes.
