Lille – Stade Rennais: Rennes bows for the first of Sampaoli
For the 12th day of Ligue 1, Rennes traveled to Lille and lost once again.
Lille 1-0 Rennes
Jorge Sampaoli led his first match as Stade Rennes coach, and we can say that the Argentinian surprised with his first lineup. A return to a 5-man defense, with Blas, Jota and Santamaria on the bench, and Nagida starting in the absence of Truffert.
Seidu injured, Rennes dominated
Rennes kicked off but it was Lille who got the first opportunity with a well-controlled incursion from Gudmundsson (3rd). Rennes responded with Nagida, whose cross was not far from being taken over by Kalimuendo (5th). From a free kick, Gronbaek sent the ball directly into the gloves of Chevalier (6th). Fate fell hard on Rennes who lost Seidu to injury, replaced by Faye who took a long time to put on her socks. Assignon, hit in the shoulder, finally remained on the field and Rennes suffered greatly against Lille in control.
Nagida, warned before the half-hour mark, was on the brink of expulsion for a gesture of humor. Lille, however, struggled to create real chances, the first coming from Bakker (24th) with a volley off target. Nagida was initially guilty of the action.
Dominated, Stade Rennes still reacted as half-time approached, still with Gouiri blasting counterattacks from the center but Rennes still failed to create a real offensive, unlike Lille who took advantage by Zhegrova from a catastrophic defense by Nagida (38th), and struck but Mandanda made the decisive save (38th). Zhegrova finally won her case just before the break (45th), finishing a magnificent action initiated from the Lille six-meter line. Overtaken in all lines, the Rennes team conceded a first goal while never being in the duel. 1-0 and half time.
Harmless for 90 minutes
Jordan James entered the game at the break, Rennes went to attack the opposing goal and the Welshman obtained a free kick, which Gronbaek took, without danger (50th). Lille scored a second goal (57th) which was ultimately canceled for a logical offside by Zhegrova. Zhegrova once again sowed discord in the defense, but was caught (55th). Kalimuendo responded with an off-target shot (60th), reflecting SRFC's difficulties in being dangerous offensively.
Better in the game, Rennes made two more changes with the entries of Jota and Gomez, without offensive effect as SRFC entered the last ten minutes. Nothing happened until a good movement between Blas and James which did not result in any strikes. The two teams entered added time and Rennes had only touched 5 balls in the opposing area, and failed to appear dangerous, until the last minute when Jota volleyed a ball which ended in the gloves of Knight.
After two purges against Auxerre and Toulouse, Rennes lost for the third time in a row in Ligue 1 and temporarily fell to 14th place in Ligue 1. For his first, Jorge Sampaoli lost
