This Saturday, June 29, voters were called to the polls in Guyana for the first round of the legislative elections. Objective of the ballot: to elect the two deputies of the territory. In total, ten candidates are in the running, five in each constituency.

Guyana has two constituencies. The first includes the municipalities of Cayenne, Rémire-Montjoly, Matoury, Roura, Régina, Ouanary, Saint-Georges de l’Oyapock and Camopi.

The second consists ofApatou, Awala-Yalimapo, Iracoubo, Grand-Santi, Kourou, Macouria, Mana, Maripasoula, Montsinéry-Tonnegrande, Papaïchton, Saint-Elie, Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, Saul and Sinnamary.

The stakes are high for the candidates in these early elections. HAS the key, a term in the National Assembly.

Here are the five candidates for the 1st district:

  • Jean-Victor Castor – MDES outgoing deputy,
  • Boris Chong Sit – without label,
  • Yvane Goua – without label,
  • Jean-Yves Mirakoff – New Forces of Guyana,
  • Olivier Taoumi – The Republicans / National Rally

Here are the five candidates for the 2nd district:

  • Sébastien Caugant – Workers’ Struggle
  • Aldo Neman – Collectif Apachi
  • Sophie Charles – No label
  • Jean-Philippe Dolor – Without label
  • Davy Rimane – Independent, outgoing MP
