Franck Elemba (weight) titled, Orlann Oliere (100 m) third, during the French championships

Sens athletes Franck Elemba (shot put) and Orlann Oliere (100 m) both reached the podium at the 2024 French Elite championships, in Angers, this Saturday June 29. Without achieving the Olympic minimums at the 2024 Games in Paris.

The evening of this second and penultimate day of the 2024 French Elite Championships began with a gold medal for Yonne. The shot putter who lives in Sens, Franck Elemba, won the competition in his discipline without ever losing his lead, with a best throw of 19.79 m, during his third attempt (out of six). The member of the Franconville Césame Val-d’Oise alliance of Congolese origin and naturalized French this season, did not however manage to reach the 21.50 m synonymous with the Olympic minimum. It now remains to be seen whether he will occupy one of the first 32 places in the world ranking, another way of validating his ticket to the Olympic Games.

“This title represents a great preparation for what comes next. I can now have fun throwing the shot put. I think I’ll do it in the coming days. (for Olympic qualification, Editor’s note). I know that I am capable of achieving very strong performances. Everything was fine, but I suffer from allergies and it started this morning. It started hitting me on the head. I had to take a doliprane and it made me a little tired.”
