In the 10th constituency of Yvelines, doubt still hangs over whether it will be a three-way race or a face-off in the second round.

At the end of the first round of the legislative elections in the 10th constituency of Yvelines, Aurore Bergé finished in the lead, closely followed by the National Rally. The New Popular Front was relegated to third place.

The local results of the tenth constituency of Yvelines defied the major national trends, this Sunday evening, June 30. Minister Aurore Bergé (Ensemble!) is at the head of the pack, followed closely by Thomas du Chalard (RN) and Cédric Briolais (NFP). She is, despite the surge of the National Rally, one of the rare heads of government to ensure her base for the second round in her constituency, even in the event of the withdrawal of the left-wing candidate.

Bergé seduces more than in 2022

With 67,791 voters for 92,480 registered, or some 17,000 more people who went to the polls compared to the first round in 2022, Aurore Bergé collected 33.59% of the votes cast.

Against the national tide, the candidate resists and even asserts herself a little more in the tenth constituency of Yvelines, by picking up additional votes. With this increase in participation, Aurore Bergé attracts nearly 5,900 more voters on the side of the presidential majority. “It’s clearly better than in 2022”, reacts the one who had sucked up 33.43% of the votes cast.

“It’s a testament to the relationships we’ve built with residents over the past seven years, knowing they have a congresswoman who works and gets results for them. They’ve sent a clear signal of Republican and Democratic values. But I remind voters that nothing is a done deal.”

The candidate came out on top in 37 of the 51 municipalities in the constituency, seven fewer than in 2022. She lost to the RN in Ablis, for example, where Thomas du Chalard rose to 37.31%, 17 points more than two years ago. In the European elections, the list led by Jordan Bardella pulverized the presidential majority, with 36.59%.

Du Chalard moves up a notch

The National Rally candidate had announced it a few days ago: he was prepared for a three-way race, facing the left and the presidential majority. “Aurore Bergé is very well-known locally, but I hope to ride the wave of momentum that is favorable to us.”

Legislative: Thomas du Chalard (RN) believes in his chances against Aurore Bergé in Rambouillet

This is done since the candidate won in 13 municipalities in the constituency, surpassing the NFP and LR, before him, in the 2022 race and showing a score of 28.22%. A rise of almost 12 points. In Sonchamp, he scored tied with the candidate at 31.93%, with 310 votes each.

The commune of Orsonville, which had chosen its mayor Anne Cabrit (LR) for the deputation in the first round of the last election, finally placed the RN in the lead, which absorbed 47.43% of the votes cast. Note that out of 229 registered, 181 people voted.

If the candidate recovers municipalities initially LR, he also scratches on those of the presidential majority. Saint-Hilarion, Mittainville, Prunay-en-Yvelines and Les Bréviaires give more votes to Thomas du Chalard than to Aurore Bergé.

Boinville-le-Gaillard remains faithful to its 2022 choice: Thomas du Chalard, in the lead in the town of just over 600 inhabitants, consolidates his first place in this first round, recovering nearly 19 points this year.

Briolais does not seem to give up

Far from the smile he displayed in 2022, on Sunday evening, Cédric Briolais waited, worried, for the results from the polling stations in his stronghold to come in. While he came out on top in Coignières, with 40.16% of the votes cast – five points more than two years ago – the rest of the 51 municipalities did not place him at the top of the podium. He still gained nearly 4,000 voters compared to 2022, and therefore gained a few percent, rising to 22.40%. A small improvement that did not, however, allow him to counter the RN wave.

If national guidelines should push him to withdraw, the qualified candidate could still continue the race. Contacted, Cédric Briolais did not respond to our requests. He has until Tuesday, July 2 in the evening, 6 p.m., to present his candidacy to the prefecture or withdraw.

Voting instructions still unclear

For their part, the Republicans continue their decline. Local figure Gaël Barbotin, who nevertheless saw himself “getting through to the second round”, fell to 8.71%, where Anne Cabrit, two years ago, had recovered 17.13% of the votes. The candidate who evolved “in a fractured political family and who did not start with all the favors”, did not wish, Sunday evening, to give any particular voting instructions. “The voters are mature. Each one will make his own analysis and his own choice. I am no one to tell them who to vote for.”

Some members of this same political family have publicly displayed their support for Aurore Bergé. Gérard Larcher, President of the Senate and former Mayor of Rambouillet, published his official support on his X account on Monday afternoon: “[…] True to my commitment to block extremes and true to my values, I will support Aurore Bergé […]” he says.

“Pierre Bédier, president of the department, Anne Cabrit, who ran against me in the last legislative elections, most of the mayors and local elected officials, all gave me their support,” lists Aurore Bergé in turn. “I think that this is a sign of clarity for them.”
