“It would be in her interest to be present in the villages,” warns Jérémy Penther, the mayor of Theuville (35 inhabitants), regarding‘Anne Sicard, the candidate of the National Rallywho came first in the first round (with 33.65%), in the first constituency of Val-d’Oise.

The elected representative from Vexin is the second to have filed the results of his commune, Sunday June 30, 2024, at the central office in Pontoise. Just ahead of his neighbor from Menouville (65 inhabitants).

Voters overwhelmingly voted for the far right, which won in 62 of the 82 municipalities of the first constituency.

Pontoise turns left

Betting on the political label is the choice made by the majority of voters in this territory. Thus Maximillien Jules-Arthur (New Popular Front) comes second in this election (20.51%), leading in only five municipalities, but three of size: Pontoise, Persan, Beaumont. The Sarcellois is distanced by 1,593 votes, by the candidate of the RN.

Only he remains to try to confront the takeover of this constituency by the extreme right. “Call on voters to republican responsibility,” he reacted after his result in the first round.

“I understand that some people do not agree with our program, but here, it is democracy that is at stake,” declared the LFI candidate.

Against the watch

Distanced, Emilie Chandler (Ensemble) is third (25.46%), far from the two escapees of the first round. 4,579 votes separate her from the leading candidate. Closing such a gap is quite an achievement.

On Monday, however, she was not considering withdrawing and is now eyeing the 3,468 votes of the Republicans, represented by Michel Richard (6,20 %).

We are disappointed by the irresponsible position taken by Emilie Chandler.

“Getting to the second round was not a given. Now, I’m relaunching my campaign to convince,” says Emilie Chandler.

Will the barroom negotiations on Sunday evening be enough to convince all 3,468 LR voters, lagging behind and now divided between voting for the former presidential majority, the far right or abstention.

In the outgoing circle, we cling to all the hypotheses and we target the voters who “think they voted usefully on the left, to avoid the RN” and who, in the scenario of the three-way race, would vote for her.

But arithmetic speaks before considerations.

The RN has won 10,446 votes since the first round of the 2022 legislative elections, while the presidential majority only collected 4,772 more.

In 2022, the Renaissance candidate won against Nupes (now the New Popular Front), which gained 6,000 more votes in two years, in this constituency which has been acquired by the right since 1986.

“We are disappointed by the irresponsible position that Emilie Chandler is taking. If I had finished third, I would have withdrawn, especially with such a gap in votes,” tries to reason Maximillien Jules-Arthur, who hopes to convince the same left-wing voters that the outgoing candidate thinks he has achieved.

PS activists, Glucksmann tendency. “… votes won in the European elections and who come from Renaissance”, says Maximillien Jules-Arthur. “We will call on them to mobilize to form a common front”. A call heard by Glucksmann’s movement.

On Monday, Place Publique 95 called on the candidate (Renaissance) “to live up to history” and to withdraw.
