Saint-Brieuc: the Maryse lingerie boutique, a local institution, closes its doors

This is a long page in the commercial history of Saint-Brieuc that is turning. The lingerie boutique Maryse, located at 4, rue de Rohan in Saint-Brieuc, will close its doors on Saturday, July 6. Laurence Lecourtois, the manager, has been running her business alone for seven and a half years. “This boutique was doing very well when I bought it, but after Covid and this series of works, which prevents people from entering the city center or makes them go around in circles, my turnover has collapsed, and I can no longer stay,” laments the shopkeeper.

70 ans d’existence

Her store celebrated its 70th anniversary this year, like a venerable institution in the heart of the city, on an area of 100 m². Since June 20, the date the liquidation began, the store has been full: she has already sold more than 3,000 items at half price, from very nice brands and for all ages. The opportunity to see her customers one last time for this owner who says she is “disappointed and abandoned”, and prefers to leave before the planned works on Place de la Résistance. Her intention is to continue her business in the trade, but without being the owner.

A disappointment that echoes that of Léa and Isabelle Ballouard, who closed their Porte 12 boutique on Saturday June 29. When questioned, the City of Saint-Brieuc highlighted an “increase in pedestrian flow” in the city, while indicating that the ready-to-wear sector was going through a “sustainable crisis” throughout France.
