Legislative elections: how to vote without your voter card? : News

Before the early legislative elections, many French people are wondering if it will be possible to vote without having a voter card. The answer is yes.

On the eve of the first round of the legislative elections, many French people should cast their ballots at the polls. But to vote, it is necessary to bring your electoral card to the assessors in the polling stations on election day, as reported by L’Internaute. However, this is not obligatory. Theoretically, voters must go to the polling stations with their electoral card as well as an identity document with a photo. However, in practice, only identification is required to be able to vote. Without presentation of a document attesting to their identity, a person cannot take part in the ballot.

In cities with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants, it is still advisable to present both documents or one of the two, but voters can simply bring one of the two. This is the only case in which an identity document is not mandatory to vote.

You must be registered on the electoral roll to be able to vote.

Thus, if a voter can do without the electoral card to vote, he must obligatorily present an identity document. For this, several documents can be used if an identity photograph is present, such as the passport, the driving license, the vital card or even the hunting license.

Without a voter card, it is still essential to be registered on the electoral rolls in order to vote. Voters registered on the electoral rolls by a court decision must, in addition to the voter card and/or an identity document, also present the said document.
