The Bateau Genève has been keeping souls afloat for fifty years

From the assassination of an empress to the reception of outcasts, the Geneva’s hold is full of stories: those of life’s castaways and those of party-goers numbed by music.

The association for the Bateau Genève, whose name is inspired by the steamship, is this year celebrating half a century of existence and struggle to guarantee an unconditional welcome to marginalized people. To mark the occasion, its archives are on display at the Musée du patrimoine industriel until August 9. “It is important for us to give back pieces of this adventure to the people of Geneva and to all the people who are fighting with us in this fight for openness to others,” says enthusiastically Etienne Quillet, administrator of the association, seated at a table in the boat’s cafeteria.
