Thiès, June 29 (APS) – The Thiès Regional Consumer Council (CRC), chaired by the governor, made public on Friday the new prices applicable in the region, following the reduction decided by the public authorities on certain consumer products.

“As of today (…) the price of ordinary broken rice is 415 francs, a reduction of 40 francs compared to the previous price, refined palm oil will be sold at 1010 francs per liter, a reduction of 105 francs on the previous price,” listed the governor of the Thiès region, Oumar Mamadou Baldé.

By chairing the meeting of the regional consumer council, the administrative authority informed that crystallized sugar will henceforth be purchased by the people of Thies at 600 francs per kilogram, a drop of 50 francs compared to the previous price.

The bag of flour will sell for 15,400 F, thus experiencing a drop of 4,000 FCFA. While the 190 gram baguette will now be purchased for 150 francs. This represents a drop of 25 FCFA, continued the governor.

“Finally, as regards cement, I am pleased to announce that from today the tonne will be purchased at 72,000 francs, a decrease of 2,000 francs compared to the previous price,” Mr Baldé added.

He praised the work of all the actors who participated in the “process of study, proposal and validation of the new prices.”

“One thing is to set prices, another thing is to ensure their effective application on the ground”, however, clarified the administrative authority.

He promised that the authorities will have “the necessary posture so that these prices are respected by the entire chain of traders”, falling within his constituency.

We will ensure, first through awareness-raising, to reach all wholesalers, semi-wholesalers and all retailers, so that they have the prices that had been retained,” he assured.

In addition to raising awareness, he announced that he had given instructions to the regional trade service for its teams to carry out a “regular control” of prices in the three departments of the region, while saying he hoped to be able to count on “responsible behavior” traders.

The governor also invited consumer associations, civil society movements and all other territorial actors to come and lend a “helping hand” to the administration so that we do not end up with traders not respecting the new prices. .

Reacting to the questioning of consumer associations who wanted a further reduction in the price of a ton of cement in the Thiès region, Oumar Mamadou Baldé wanted to assure that the trade department will continue to work to collect their “suggestions and pleas”.

These will then be brought to the attention of the public authorities, in particular that of the Minister of Industry and Commerce, he promised, noting that the Thiès region, which is home to two of Senegal’s three cement plants, could claim such a price reduction.
