Taroudant – The curtain fell on Sunday evening in Taroudant on the 4th edition of the Taskiouine Festival, after three days of festivities celebrating this heritage rooted in the national cultural and artistic landscape.

Initiated by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication (Department of Culture), this event marked by the participation of 15 popular troupes from different regions of the Kingdom, aims to promote Taskiouine dance and contribute to the preservation and the influence of this authentic intangible art.

During this festival, a strong tribute was paid to emblematic figures who have largely contributed to the preservation of Taskiouine dance, its sustainability and its transmission to future generations.

In a statement to MAP, the artistic director of the festival, Hamza Mhimdat stressed that the 4th edition of this artistic event was a great success through the participation of several troupes representing this national cultural heritage.

The program of this edition organized in partnership with the municipal and provincial councils of Taroudant and in collaboration with the prefecture of the province of Taroudant, included the organization of an exhibition of manufacturing accessories of the Taskiouine dance, in addition to popular shows and a conference on the Taskiouine dance.

The Taskiwin dance, which is predominantly male, takes its name from the powder horn that each dancer carries on his left shoulder, tiskt (plural: Taskiwin).

The movements consist of vibrating the shoulders to the rhythm of the tambourines and flutes, to recreate episodes of war, heroism and bravery.

In 2017, it was included on UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent safeguarding.
