It was in the context of a confused emotional situation that a 26-year-old man threatened his ex-partner, her new partner and one of their friends with a knife and a knuckle-duster in Lisieux (Calvados) on Monday June 24, 2024, shortly before midnight.

Indeed, we learned during the hearing that the accused continued to maintain intimate relations with the woman he recently left on a whim, after around ten months of living together.

Discover Lisieux by night

It was precisely 12:28 a.m. when the police officers from the police station intervened in an altercation which had just occurred in the parking lot of a residence in Lisieux. When they arrive, there is a couple living in the building and one of their friends. They say they were threatened and attacked by a hooded individual armed with a knife and brass knuckles while they were preparing to show the latter “discover the city”.

The man, who left the scene before the police intervened, threatened to kill them and brandished his knife in their direction without reaching them. On the other hand, he slapped the young woman and kicked her in the thigh. The doctor from the medical-judicial unit who examined her early in the afternoon noted head trauma and a state of astonishment justifying a 2-day ITT.

The man expected at the bottom of the building

According to the young woman, it was not a gratuitous attack. In fact, she says she recognized “without a doubt” the voice of her ex-partner, when he threatened to “crash” all three of them. Armed with this information, the police arrested him at 9:15 a.m. at the home of one of his friends where he was staying. The man will recognize the facts without any difficulty.

The testimony of the couple’s neighbour who had called the police station sheds new light on the case. She says she distinctly heard the young woman shout at her attacker, “Come here, asshole! You’re not leaving!” at the start of the altercation, which lasted about thirty minutes.

The use of the phone of the “young man” who was with the couple allowed investigators to see that the man was expected by the trio at the bottom of the building, presumably to fight.

To intimidate them

Why did he arm himself with two weapons? “It was to intimidate them. When I arrived, they had not come out. They arrived three at a time: one through the front door and two through the back door,” the defendant explained.

He was acquitted of the violence and threats against his ex’s new partner, but he will have to pay him the sum of €132 in settlement of the damage to the rearview mirror of his vehicle. He was found guilty of the remainder and sentenced to 12 months in prison, 6 of which were suspended with a probationary period of 2 years. He has an obligation to work and receive care.

He is prohibited from having contact with the three complainants for 3 years and from possessing a weapon subject to authorization for the same period. He was fined €200 for damage. The court pronounces his ineligibility for 3 years and issues a committal warrant at the hearing.
