A fattening pigsty project that is making noise. In Larnod (Doubs), the GAEC des Combards submitted several weeks ago a building permit for the installation of an infrastructure of nearly 1,000 m² (a condition for obtaining the red label).
The document was in the hands of the village mayor Hugues Trudet. But the project is now at a standstill, after the councilor's announcement on November 12 that he did not want to sign the building authorization. The day before, an online petition had even been launched by a collective against the pigsty. To date, nearly 17,000 signatures have already been collected.
The mayor of Larnod had given himself time to better judge the project. The latter visited pig factories and came into contact with the Interporc company, a company which supplies piglets to farms in eastern France.
“My municipality and I tried to cross-reference all the data” he explains. “We did what was necessary to understand the project, but what posed a problem was the spreading of manure and the proximity of the complex to homes”,
The pig farm must have been 150 meters from the first homes

Already in possession of a Montbéliardes cow farm, the GAEC des Combards already spreads its manure. The possibility of adding pig excrement to this did not work in the company's favor. “The pig farm had to be 150 meters from the first houses, the spreading was less than 100 meters from the houses. So it wasn't possible.”explains Hugues Trudet.
The town of Larnod is located in a valley, not far from a stream, La Vetret, which then joins the Loue river. Problem is, the site targeted by the building permit for the new operation is a few dozen meters from the source of the small stream.
A proximity which pushed the mayor to refuse the request: “If spreading is done, it could end up in the source and through the flow of the stream, end up in the Loue, which is a river already suffering”.
Although state services gave their approval for the project, the town hall opposed it. Nevertheless, an appeal is still possible, although Hugues Trudet, “don’t really see the owners of GAEC getting into this”. When contacted, Hervé Mottiez, manager of GAEC des Combards, did not wish to comment on the subject.
The matter has taken on another dimension in recent days. On November 11, an online petition was created by the collective “No to the Larnod pigsty“. Aith as titled: “No to the creation of a pigsty in the heart of the village of Larnod”. In nine days, it has already accumulated nearly 17,000 signatures.
In their demands, the members of the collective indicate “be worried about this project. The nuisances are too great, particularly in terms of smell. U“no certainty of a loss of turnover for the economic activities of the village, in the sale of real estate land and in tourism”.
