The week of Alexandra Chabanne, president of GroupM France (WPP). This year she also chairs the jury for the Grand Prix des Médias which will meet at the beginning of July.

THIS WEEK WHAT WAS YOUR “+”?

Alexandra Chabanne : Our WPP group won 166 Lions at the Cannes Lions! A remarkable record that makes it the most awarded group at the Festival this year. This represents great recognition from the profession for the work, commitment and creativity of our teams. Even though I only made a brief stop at the Cannes Lions, these few days were extremely enriching. I met many clients with whom I had exciting discussions about their news, the new paradigms of our professions and our upcoming projects. It is exciting to see the energy of our industry, and these are incredible moments of sharing and taking the temperature.

USUALLY FRIDAY: IS YOUR WEEKEND ALREADY PLANNED? A LITTLE ? A LOT ? NO WAY …

Alexandra Chabanne : No way. Luxury for me is time! Being able to decide at the last minute and not planning anything – not having an agenda or constraints. At the weekend, I like to recharge my batteries, play tennis and disconnect in the green, in Normandy. What is important to me is to be close to my family and nature.

WHAT CATCHED YOUR ATTENTION THIS WEEK IN THE MEDIA OR IN ADVERTISING?

Alexandra Chabanne : What marked my week was having the chance to begin my role as President of the 26th edition of the Grand Prix des Médias, which you entrusted to me. I was able to immerse myself in the 145 applications submitted, and at this stage I can already say that I am pleasantly surprised by the richness of the projects and their diversity. I won’t say more. See you on September 3 to find out the 21 winners!

AND WHAT INTERESTING DID YOU LEARN ABOUT IMPACT INITIATIVES?

Alexandra Chabanne : I had the chance to meet Brian O’Kelley, one of the most influential figures in Adtech, and to attend one of his illustrious conferences on the environmental impact of media campaigns. An inspiring session to go beyond the myths and better understand the challenges and obstacles of a carbon measurement adapted to the advertising ecosystem. Aware of these issues and drivers of decarbonization initiatives alongside the players in our industry, we at GroupM have adopted Scope3the carbon emission measurement solution developed by Brian O’Kelley. It allows us to go further in understanding the environmental impacts of the campaigns we implement. The discussions were fascinating!

AN EXHIBITION TO SEE IN YOUR FREE TIME?

Alexandra Chabanne : « Paris 1924, advertising in the city », the exhibition dedicated to advertising during the previous Paris Olympic Games. We have been preparing this exceptional event for over a year with the aim of combining performance, creativity and fun! And above all, I like this idea of discovering Paris as it existed in 1924, and of experiencing a real immersion in the capital a century later. At the beginning of the 1920s, advertising was omnipresent in Paris, accompanying the cultural and artistic revival of the time. An industry that lasts and evolves in the right direction.

IT’S THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, STUDENTS ARE FIND OUT THEIR ORIENTATIONS, LOOKING FOR THEIR FIRST PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE… ANY ADVICE TO GIVE THEM?

Alexandra Chabanne : Our industry is recruiting, there are many opportunities for career, development and fulfillment. There is always room for new talent. My advice: dare! We have a certain responsibility to make our professions more accessible, readable and visible, knowing that our professions today will be completely different tomorrow. It’s up to us to tell our youngest about this transformation, this evolution, to show them the opportunities we offer. To do this, we regularly open the doors of our agencies on our WPP Campus. Come meet us!
