the essential
By humiliating the Girondins who did not exist (59-3), the “red and black” did much more than just register their name for the 23rd time in the championship’s prize list.

What records has Stade Toulousain broken?

In addition to this historic 23rd Brennus, which brings the gap with its runner-up to nine (Stade Français, 14), the “rouge et noir” club also erased two other marks. Those of the greatest number of points scored in the final held by Biarritz (40; 2006), more than doubling the largest gap at this stage of the competition (56), so far by 27 points (Biarritz in 2006, 40- 13 against… Toulouse and Stade Français in 1998, 34-7 against Perpignan). Without forgetting the number of tries scored (9) nor the fact of achieving a third European Cup-championship double after those of 1996 and 2021.

Before Marseille, how many cities had hosted the championship final?

If the Vélodrome had already been the scene of a Champions Cup final (2022), it was the first time that the Brennus shield was at stake in the Marseille city, the 13th city to host a final after Paris, Courbevoie-Bécon -les-Bruyères, Le Bouscat, Levallois-Perret, Saint-Cloud, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Colombes, Béziers, Narbonne, Lyon and Barcelona.

Since when has a team other than Toulouse not achieved a double in the Top 14?

We have to go back to the mid-2000s with the Biarritz Olympique of the great era (2005, 2006). This is the third time that Stade Toulousain has achieved this in the 21st century (2011-2012 and 2019-2021, the 2020 edition not having been completed due to Covid).

Had Thomas Ramos already scored a try in the Top 14 final?

No. His double against UBB and his 10 goals scored with his foot allowed him to beat his points record before lifting the Brennus (20 against 19 last year). Above all, the international full-back scored 52.3% of the Stade points during the four finals played and won since 2019 (68 out of 130).

What do you think of the Matthieu Jalibert bet made by UBB?

That he was a loser even if the solutions were not legion, Mateo Garcia being injured. Not only did the international fly-half have absolutely no impact on his team’s play by simply passing the shots without ever speeding up the game, but he also cost him dearly. He is in fact at the origin of the first try (7) with a ball returned on a kick in the back of the Toulouse defense very badly felt (5) which allowed Thomas Ramos to bring the danger back to the unionist camp . Coming out with his head down in the 55th minute under a few whistles, he was able to see that his unpopularity rating remained intact.

Did the use of video have an impact on the debates?

There were three, all in the first half and it cost UBB a yellow card for a high tackle by Tevita Tatafu on Santiago Chocobares on the action of the first try. This also deprived Peato Mauvaka of the double (40+1), with no images proving that the “red and black” hooker had indeed flattened after recovering in the background a missed touch by the Girondins five meters from their in-goal. As for Juan Cruz Mallia, the refereeing body considered that his tackle on Louis Bielle-Biarrey (32) had been carried out within the rules.

Why was Emmanuel Macron not present at the presentation of the teams?

If the Elysée did not give any explanations for the absence of the President, who is nevertheless accustomed to protocol and yet a fan of OM, the hot electoral context must not be unrelated. The presentation of the teams, led by Laurent Marti and Didier Lacroix in the company of the presidents Florian Grill (FFR) and René Bouscatel (LNR) was therefore much quicker than usual. Barely more than two minutes were enough to review the squads and it is not so bad after all.
