Maverick Viñales finished the first day of testing for the Assen GP in second position. The Spanish rider will have direct access to Q2 and will fight for the top positions in qualifying on Saturday.
In his report, the Aprilia Racing rider spoke about the sensations he felt during the day.
– Everything went very well. Obviously, on a track where the bike is more competitive. On the others, our competitors are a little bit faster. But I think we have always been in the top five, except on one track. So I feel good, with a good base of settings, as always. I feel like I am two or three steps ahead, so we will try to do a good job. Obviously, there are tracks where we are a little bit more competitive and others where we have difficulties. The important thing is to be on the front row and then we will see. I am confident.
He added: “If we can do 31 under, we are sure to be on the front row. That’s why we are aiming for 31 under tomorrow. I am sure we will be ready to do it. And after that, in terms of pace, I am happy. I did a long run on the soft tyres, trying to understand. And even the last laps were good. So I feel very competitive in all aspects of the race and also in qualifying.”
