In Toronto, the century-old Revue cinema says it may have to close its doors on June 30 due to a dispute over the renewal of its lease.

More than 1,000 screenings of independent and indigenous films as well as classics, in particular, take place there each year.

The non-profit cinema, located in the neighborhood Roncesvalles, in the west of the city, has been open since 1912.

Its board of directors (Revue Film Society) claims to be evaluating all possibilities to avoid a closure, including a request for an injunction in court.

This is devastating for me, for our employees and for the film community we serve.says Grant Oyston, chairman of the board of directors of the Revuewho says he has been negotiating in vain for months with the owner.

Mr Oyston promises to refund customers if it closes.

The owner of the building, Danny Mullin, assures that he is not seeking to close the cinema, but he is calling for changes in its operation, citing disagreements with the board of directors in the past.
