According to information from Europe 1, a 22-year-old man, born in Mamoudzou, in Mayotte, was arrested by Rennes police officers on Thursday at midday, when he had just raped and threatened to kill two women in turn through the streets of the city.

A criminal journey that begins in the early morning
The first victim was “carjacked” in the early morning, around 5:30 a.m., while dropping off her partner at Rennes station. As she was about to start, the man entered the car through the left door, and forced her to move into the passenger seat. While driving the vehicle, he stops at an ATM and forces her to withdraw 200 euros by threatening to kill her. Outside the city, at the bottom of a garden, he orders her to undress and lie down in the back seat, before forcing her to rape her.
Three hours later, still in the car stolen from the first victim – which he had meanwhile released in front of a metro entrance – he attacked a mother who had just left her children at school. He assures her that he has a knife on him and orders her to obey him, otherwise he would “plant” her. The victim had the reflex to scream in the middle of the street, which made him flee. At midday, the police managed, thanks to victims’ testimonies and video surveillance images, to trace the stolen car and its driver. He was arrested shortly before 2 p.m. and placed in police custody.
A man very unfavorably known to the police
His profile is worrying. He is very unfavorably known to the police, in particular for the sexual assault in 2022 of a 5-year-old minor. He has also been arrested for a month without going to prison. According to information from Europe 1, he was arrested on May 15 and 16 for possession of narcotics, on May 21 for violence, on June 1 for a simple theft, then on June 7 for a theft with destruction, and finally on June 12 and 13 for two burglaries. A succession of offenses, however alarming, which will therefore not have led to his incarceration.
