With the opening of the summer day camp, the City of Victoriaville inaugurated the work carried out at the Arthabaska Community Center. The improvements made make it possible to improve the universal accessibility of the building, but also to upgrade all of the infrastructure to make it even more functional and adapted to better meet the needs of many users.

“After more than 35 years of activities at the heart of the community, the Community Centre is entering a new era. The improvements made will better meet the needs of the entire population. I would like to thank the team at the Corporation récréative de Victoriaville, all the professionals who collaborated on this project, as well as the users for their valuable collaboration throughout the project,” said Mayor Antoine Tardif.

The modernization of the Arthabaska Community Center was carried out in collaboration with the Bois-Francs School Service Center, as part of an agreement to share resources and expertise in building and civil engineering project management. This innovative method was honored by the Union of Municipalities of Quebec, winning a Merit Municipal Ovation to highlight the innovative nature of the method.

The work in summary

Started in August 2023, the rejuvenation phase of the Arthabaska Community Center consisted of replacing the roof, the complete building envelope (cladding, insulation, waterproofing), electrical services, plumbing, heating system and ventilation. The exterior facilities, multifunctional rooms and toilet blocks have also been reviewed to meet the needs of the many users. New electric charging stations have been added and will be put into service very soon. Finally, a solar wall was installed, allowing the air entering the building to be preheated.

This project received grants from the Government of Quebec in the amount of $1,652,900.80 through its Financial Assistance Program for Recreational and Sports Infrastructure, and a grant from the Government of Canada in the amount of $1,033,063 through the Community, Cultural and Recreational Infrastructure component of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

“Our government is committed to supporting projects that improve the quality of life of our citizens. That is why we invested more than $1,033,000 to renovate the Arthabaska Community Centre in Victoriaville, which will provide residents with a safe and modern place to gather and share enriching experiences. We are continuing to invest in quality community infrastructure to help build pleasant and welcoming living environments,” said the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities.

“This is a great day for the entire Victoriaville region. All citizens will be able to take advantage of these renovated facilities to practice leisure activities and develop an active lifestyle. Congratulations to everyone who was involved in the success of this project,” said Isabelle Charest, Minister responsible for Sports, Recreation and Outdoor Activities.

Located at 735, boulevard des Bois-Francs Sud, the Arthabaska Community Centre offers multiple sports and recreational activities in all seasons. In addition to a series of varied courses and workshops, it offers a summer day camp, rooms available for rental, volleyball, tennis and soccer fields, and houses field hockey facilities (dek hockey). Throughout the year, its plateaus are occupied by various community and social organizations.

Please note that registration for cultural activities for fall 2024 will take place starting September 4, 2024. Festivities will be held from September 4 to 7, 2024. Details will be announced in the coming weeks.
