Traders welcome announcement of parking in Laval, despite concerns

« Everything will depend on the number of parking spaces. » The mayor of Laval (Mayenne) Florian Bercault announced, in the community council, on Monday June 24, 2024, the construction of an above-ground car park on the André-Pinçon quay. This news was very well received by the traders, despite some precautions.

“What pricing will be applied?”

« Basically it’s very good. A real satisfaction. It remains to be seen, however, how long the project will last? What impact will this have on the André-Pinçon quay? What pricing will be applied? “, notes Laurent Gaudin, director of Cinéville de Laval, who hopes for the preservation of the “ free evenings and weekends » currently in place.

For the president of Laval Coeur de Commerce, Matthieu Fradin, the number of places is at the center of concerns. “ Among the shopkeepers, no one opposed a new Place du 11-Novembre. But we have always fought for the attractiveness of the city center and therefore, in favor of parking spaces to attract customers. Here, we have an interesting response from the city hall. Now, if it is to make 20 spaces on two floors, it will not solve the problem. There is still some vagueness. But it is reassuring for the shopkeepers who feel listened to. »

In order to realize this project, the City must purchase the headquarters of the Chamber of Trades and Crafts (CMA) of Mayenne, located at 39, quai André-Pinçon. An agreement has been signed by the stakeholders concerned. When contacted, the CMA did not wish to communicate on this subject.
