New security arches at the Joliette courthouse

JOLIETTE, QC, June 28, 2024 /CNW/ – The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Quebec, Mr. Simon Jolin-Barrette, the Minister of Public Security and Minister responsible for the Estrie region, Mr. François Bonnardel, and the Member of Parliament for JolietteMr. François St-Louisannounce the implementation of new security measures at the courthouse of Joliette. As of today, security arches are in operation at the entrance to the palace.

It should be noted that in a courthouse, it is prohibited to have in one’s possession a firearm or any other object that could be used to harm a person’s physical integrity, threaten them or intimidate them. In addition, refusing to comply with security measures, leaving the premises or being expelled does not release a person from their obligation to comply with a summons or a subpoena to appear before the court.

Considering the implementation of these new measures, it is recommended that people who will attend the courthouse plan their trips, because they remain responsible for arriving on time for a hearing, even if waiting times could be observed at the entrance to the palace.

The modernization of security equipment will help to strengthen the feeling of security of the population as well as of the justice system workers who work every day at the courthouse.

An investment of 31 million dollars

Remember that on June 3, an investment of $31 million was announced. Of this sum, 7.6 million will be used to add and modernize equipment in the Quebec courthouse network and 23.4 million will be used for training and hiring special constables.
